The iron sport isn’t new. For decades, athletes have been testing their strength against iron – it’s a constant standard we use to measure our progress. And, as the great American rock singer and iron head Henry Rollins once said: “Friends may come and go, but 200 pounds is always 200 pounds.” Over the years, people have been drawn to that constant measurement tool, and it has shaped our society in unexpected ways. Multiple disciplines have emerged where training has evolved into a competitive sport: Powerlifting, cross fit, olympic lifting, bodybuilding and more. Additionally, nearly every sport in existence uses some form of weight training as conditioning for performance. There is a deep history behind the iron sport, and GASP is dedicated to honoring its past while being a part of its evolution.
