Pride in the Pump

Pride in the Pump

Crushing massive weights and knowing we can move mountains at will is only half of the reason we love training. The other half and Arnold probably said it best himself, is the satisfying feeling of the pump. When your muscles feel like they’ve been inflated by an air pump and the vascularity covers the crevices of your striated muscular structure, there’s no better feeling than that. We live for it, we chase it, we do our best to maintain it for as long as we possibly can and we take pride in it.

The pump phenomena is difficult to explain to an outsider and trying to understand why we invite swelling and sometimes good pain into our lives is something difficult to comprehend. There are times when the pump is so vicious, we don’t know what to do with our arms; put them up and rest them on something or let them hang. There are other times when our legs fill up so much that flexing the knee just to get up into our trucks or down into our cars is damn near impossible. Why, you ask, does it look like we’re trying to spread our wings and fly after we’ve trained back? Well, if you don’t have lats you won’t understand the answer.

Some of us will simply enjoy this sensation to ourselves. We will keep our Gasp Hoodies on and be content with what we feel and how we know our muscles look. Then, there are those of us who put the pump on display for others to admire and revere. The satisfaction of looking in the mirror and seeing your physique come alive while showing new freakiness with veins popping out all over the place and looking twice the size you are without a pump is real. After all, you didn’t go to Gym Star Apparel and purchase a new Better Bodies Essential T-Back to wear around the house. Hell no, you bought it because you have pride in the pump and have no issues with showing it off.

Your goal as soon as you enter the gym should be to get a crazy pump going right away. Do what you have to do in order to start filling up. The sooner you do, the sooner you’ll get that feeling of confidence and pure enjoyment going which will then transfer into your overall attitude and approach to the workout and the alpha dominance within will begin to shine. You all know you feel a hundred times better once the pump sets in so why wait? When your arms and chest are full-blown, you know you take on a whole different demeanour. Your swagger changes, your actions become bolder and your pride leads the way.

If you’re reading this and have no idea what I’m referring to then I am sorry. I am sorry that you have yet to experience one of the greatest sensations the gym can offer you. The pump changes everything for the better and can take a lousy day and turn it into an amazing one. You owe it to yourself each day to get a pump and to feel great about yourself and what you’ve accomplished. If you found yourself nodding yes while reading this, then enough said; the pride in your pump is real and respect is on its way.
